New BOK website
The current BOK website has done sterling service but is in need of a revamp and a new platform to make it easier to maintain and enhance. Scott Bailey has made great strides with the design of our new site and we are now at the point of asking for 'user feedback'. Please try out the site at http://www.bristolorienteering.org.uk/test/drupal/
The intention replace the existing site with the new one in the middle of September. So please email 'webmaster@bristolorienteering.org.uk' with comments and suggestions.

Dorset Coast Path Relay
Tim Britton writes "Please can I have a show of hands of who's keen to run for BOK in this year's Dorset Coast Path Relay on Saturday 3rd September?
Last year I hoped that a small but fast team would challenge Wessex's dominance. We managed it, for a while, but the sheer number of runners that WSX can put out meant that they got away from us. We did however win the handicap trophy with our small number and fast time.
This year if possible I'd like as many of our 'fast' runners as we can muster and to have a supporting team to help out on the shorter legs and the hilly changeover points.
So please let me know as soon as possible if you're keen to join the team.
The race starts in Lyme Regis at 0800 and ends at Sandbanks, Poole usually about eight hours later. Full details here: http://web.mac.com/richardsonjx/DorsetCoastPathRelay/Home.html.
I look forward to hearing from you (tim.g.britton[@]blueyonder.co.uk)."

Whole Sport Plan for Orienteering
Have your say in British Orienteering's Whole Sport Plan.
There is less than two years to run of our current Whole Sport Plan. With this in mind BOF needs to start thinking about the plan for the next period and are seeking your views early in this process. It's worth noting that this plan for orienteering is nothing to do with sports councils and is everything to do with understanding the needs and priorities of orienteers and orienteering clubs.
The following link is to a questionnaire which is aimed at getting an initial sampling of members’ views towards the work done as part of the current Whole Sport Plan. There will be a more in-depth consultation period based on the ideas expressed at a later stage.
Whole Sport Plan Questionnare
BOF are keen for as many club members as possible to have their say.

A great weekend on the Gower
Tony Lloyd reports...
Having returned from my first CampO weekend with BOK/SBOC I would like to thank all involved in planning and setting it up. Being new to orienteering the different terrains were first times for me on both days and the BBQ social was a good opportunity to meet more of you (not always easy on a Sunday event). Cheers for a great experience, am looking forward to next time. Word got round that I took part in the early morning extra curricular activity on the beach at Llangennith. Many of you asked, with interest, how it was. I should have not been surprised given that orienteers are not slow at undressing in open spaces, a trait shared by surfers and other outdoor sports. ..... "The Skinny Dip was brilliant, great atmosphere, cold defeated by a massive adrenalin rush, you must have seen it in all the papers. We raised £14000+ for Marie Curie Cancer care -- see my perspective on http:www.justgiving.com/tony-lloyd0 " ............ I have not reached my target sponsorship yet so feel free!

This weeks informal is at Ashton Hill Plantation near Failand, planned and organised by the University of Bristol Orienteering Club. There are three courses on offer - short (1.4k), medium (3.1k) and long (4.1k) ; roughly yellow, orange and light green standard. All are planned to keep bramble bashing to a minimum. Ticks are common and full leg cover is compulsory. Klub Weekend - Midsummer on Gower
Once again we will be combining our Klub Weekend with the Midsummer on Gower weekend to be hosted by SBOC on 17th-19th June. This is always a relaxed and sociable occasion, combining good orienteering with the opportunity to gather for a barbecue on Saturday evening. There are 3 events on offer, starting with an informal event at Whiteford Burrows on Friday evening and followed by a Welsh League event on the challenging dunes of Broughton Burrows on the Saturday. The popular 2x2 relay event, which aims to match courses to age class so that any pair can win, is at Cefn Bryn on Sunday. Pre-entry via Fabian4 (by Sunday 12th June) is required for Saturday and Sunday; Friday is entry on the day. Camping will be at Kennoxstone Camping & Touring Park, Gower. Please book direct with the park on 01792 386790, mentioning orienteering as they will be setting aside space for us. Further details of the weekend can be found on the SBOC website.

Alan Honey is giving up his role as one of the Club's webmasters. John Simmons, the other webmaster, is continuing. If you are interested in replacing Alan, please contact him or John for further information.
Over the last few months a new club website has been developed by a student at City of Bath College, based on a content management system. This should make the website easier to maintain. The webmasters need to test and populate this new site over the next couple of months, if it is to go live in the autumn. The new webmaster does not need to be an expert, but needs to be comfortable working with computers and willing to learn.

British Champs - lost property
Pete Foster writes:
"It appears someone has inadvertently picked up my BOK top after the relays on Sunday. It will have been very soggy as a result of the stupendous effort expended by its owner during the event! It is a large top, with most of the letters that make up BRISTOL on the back, having been worn away. Has anyone picked it up in error? Thanks "

BOK News - errata
Mark Blackstone writes:
"The Editors apologise for 2 mistakes in BOK NEWS (posted out Tuesday 17th May). Firstly, pages 5 and 6 have been transposed, and secondly the advert for the KLUB's 40th birthday event was printed wrongly, so a substitute page 28 is included.
The relatively imminent closing date for the pre entries and the delay in finalising BOK NEWS was the reason for getting the magazines out without further delay."

Cotswold Way Relay Run
Phil Warry says 'Once again I shall be organising a BOK team (teams?) for this year's Cotswold Way Relay, which takes place on Saturday 25 June. The relay runs from Chipping Campden through to Bath Abbey using the waymarked route of the Cotswold Way. The race comprises 10 back-to-back races starting each stage with a mass start at the expected arrival time of the 1st runner from the previous stage (or considerably earlier than some of us finish the previous stage!) The route is over 90% off-road, taking in many hills, woodlands, fields and tracks, all offering spectacular views of the countryside around. The stages vary in length (from between 7 to 13 miles) and ascent to offer a differing flavour for each runner in the team. There are no marshals on the route, so route finding is all part of the spirit of the event. We only managed one BOK team last year but in previous years we have had 2 teams, so hopefully we can do so again this year. Further details about the race are given at www.cotswoldwayrelay.co.uk. So if you would like to take part, put the date in your diary and let me know.

Spectacular BOK Success at 2011 Southern Championship
Howard Thomas says 'BOK returned from TVOC’s event on the undulating but very runnable terrain of the Hambleden estate with a haul of 7 individual Southern Championship titles. Provisional results for the event are now available on the website.
Having had to recycle some dibbers, there may be a few missing entries in the results. Please get back in touch with the webmaster with any queries or problems.
