Junior Training - Saturday 27 November 2010

Jackie Hallett says 'BOK's first outdoor talent squad training was at Greyfield Wood. It incorporated short courses of head to head relay type racing to improve concentration and with an aim of not to be distracted by others. As the group started its warm up the rain began to fall. After the first round of controls there was a real buzz with everyone talking about which controls they had and where their courses differed. Then the rain got heavier and heavier and although all courses were completed there was an urgency at the end to get back to the cars and warm up. Well done to those who then ventured out again for the Saturday League event. Despite the rain I think all enjoyed the challenge and were pleasantly surprised by the runnable woods they were taken through. We all hope for improved weather at Ashton Court on Saturday 27th November.

For those juniors wishing to improve their basic skills there will be a coaching session at Ashton Court on Saturday 27th November 10.00 – 11.30. This is aimed at yellow and orange standard. If you would like to attend please let either Jackie Hallett or Jim Hayward know through the website's contact facility or phone [Home 01934 844416 or Work 01934 834877].

NWO Silk Wood event at Westonbirt, Sunday 28th Feb

A reminder that there is a NWO local and ASO event on Sunday 28th Feb at Westonbirt Arboretum.

Pete Maliphant reports that the South West Junior Squad shop now has several types of control description holder in stock as well as ankle tape.
The bad news is that the authorities at Westonbirt have declined to give the SWJS permission to bring anything at all to the event this weekend. So no cakes on Sunday!
If you need anything for Sunday please e-mail or call the Maliphant family - the address can be found at www.swjs.co.uk/obuy.html.

Klub Archivist

The Chairman says 'I am delighted to inform the Membership that we have a new post within the Klub - of the Bristol Orienteering Klub Archivist. Alan Kempton has very kindly offered his services to fill this role.

Now for all of you who have those special pieces of memorabilia do let us know and we can develop an anthology of our 38 years. BOK News, maps, awards, key members - all can be recorded. Thank you Alan - and I think the first port of call might be Anne Donnell's cupboard!'

Klub Archivist

Anyone ? At Committee we have found the subject of the possibility of creating the role of Klub Archivist arising in two successive meetingsn and this has prompted me to post this Blog. We feel there would be a great service to the Klub by drawing together the history of its activities, winners, awards, maps, BOK News, etc. Ideally, this information would be converted into a digital record - but in the first instant, we would like to identify and collate the realm of information that is largely held in many an obscure garage! Might there be anyone [or more] out there who would be willing to set up this invaluable role. Please do send me an E mail or give me a ring if tempted.

Compass Sport Cup

From Phil Fawkner-Corbett: 'The Chairman wishes to congratulate and thank everyone from BOK who found their way to Godshill to secure a resounding winning position and a place in the Compass Sport Cup Final. I would particularly like to pay tribute to the many scoring juniors - Adam Potter, Isla Simmons, Ben Maliphant, Shona Simmons, Michael Hallett and Chloe Potter - who between them registered 576 crucial points. The winning margin over SOC being 155 points. A great effort and thank you again to everyone.'

BOK Qualify For Compass Sport Cup Final

BOK won the Compass Sport Cup qualifying round at Hampton Ridge on Sunday, finishing 155 points ahead of SOC with a score of 2395 points. Congratulations and thanks to the 70 BOK members who turned out for this event and ensured success for the Klub. The final will be on 17th October at Burbage Moor near Sheffield, so please put the date in your diaries now; we'll need a strong team if we're to improve on last year's 3rd place. SOC also qualify for the Cup as BOK were in last year's top three and Wimborne go through to the Trophy final after beating SARUM by just 1 point. Full results are on the Emit website.

Junior Coaching

There are many opportunities for training both within the club and with the South West junior squad. The next training days with BOK will be a joint venture with the Welsh junior squad during February half term again based in the Forest of Dean.

This will run Wednesday February 17th through to the Friday 19th for training but with the opportunity to stay until the Sunday when the Southern Championships are being held at Lydney. Those who went last year thought this was excellent training and an opportunity to meet up with juniors from another region. You can attend for the whole 5 days or any part thereof.

Please let Jackie Hallett know if you wish to attend or require further information.

Dorset Coast Path Relay 2010

Tim Britton says "This year's race date has just been announced as Saturday 4th September 2010. It's early days yet, but if you're interested in running for BOK please get this date into your fixtures calendar now. BOK didn't manage to get enough of a team together in 2009, so let's all save the date - we don't want any excuses for non-attendance!

Silkwood - The event is still on

There were 3 inches of snow and ice on the ground this morning but hopefully all or most will have thawed by tomorrow. Please be careful however.

Please follow O signs to the parking area and have some evidence to show the FC attendent at the booth that you are there for orienteering. If our allocated parking are is full please use the main car park. There is a £1 parking fee per vehicle which will be collected at registration.

We will be using master maps so please bring a red pen and if possible a polythene bag.
